Paper adds many features to the API, allowing plugins to do more things on the server. Such as optimising the way the game chooses spawn locations for mobs to allow fewer overall mobs without players noticing. Paper also includes many options that you can enable to further improve performance at the expense of impacting gameplay behaviour. However, it's common for Paper to increase the number of players your server can support without slowing down by over 50%.

It's impossible to give exact performance statistics due to how different every Minecraft server is. Paper includes a large number of changes that speed up different aspects of the game. The main benefit of using Paper is the significantly improved performance compared to a Spigot or CraftBukkit server. Paper has a fair few benefits over Spigot. Dupe bugs are also generally unable to be re-enabled on Paper, unlike all of their other behaviour changes. Paper patches any known dupe bugs, meaning it could interfere with wanted gameplay. Vanilla Dupe Bugsįor some server types such as Anarchy, retaining various duplication exploits may be wanted. It would be best if you did not use ViaVersion in the long term.
#Bukkit plugins iconomy update
Once the new version is stable, you should update to keep up to date. Instead, you could use a plugin that allows newer versions to connect to older servers, such as ViaVersion, temporarily. During this time, Minecraft, Spigot/Paper, and plugins are often not yet stable. It's worth noting, however, that it's unwise to update to a new version of Minecraft within the first week. This drawback may disappear in the future due to Paper's plans on becoming a hard fork. If updating your server straight away is highly valuable to you, Spigot may be a good idea. Paper often takes a few hours to days beyond Spigot, as Paper must wait on Spigot to update before starting. When new Minecraft versions release, you can generally use Spigot within a few hours. The most significant advantage of using Spigot is that it updates faster. This list being short does not mean that Spigot is inferior it's because Paper builds on top of Spigot. Benefits of SpigotĪs Paper builds on top of Spigot, Spigot has few individual benefits. As no one supports this platform anymore, using it is unwise and could lead to problems without assistance. The Spigot team maintain CraftBukkit as a base for Spigot and neither endorse nor recommend using it.

CraftBukkit was the official Bukkit server for a fair while, but it no longer receives any support. So what's the difference? Which should you choose? A note about CraftBukkitįirstly, it's worth mentioning why you should not use CraftBukkit.
#Bukkit plugins iconomy software
Paper and Spigot are very similar, both being server software that supports Bukkit plugins. Due to the popularity of my previous article on Fabric vs Forge, I've decided to write up a guide on whether you should use Paper or Spigot.
